Ergens deze week krijg ik een nieuwe SSD binnen. Ik wil hier een dual boot opzetten met Ubuntu 16.04 en Windows 10. Ik heb dit vroeger wel eens gedaan toen er al Windows op mijn drive stond. Ik vroeg mezelf af wat 'beter' is. Eerst Ubuntu installeren of eerst Windows installeren? Mijn 'dual boot kennis' is maar beperkt. Wat is jullie ervaring? Any tips?

Gebruik je het puur voor test-omgeving of heb je andere ideeën hiervoor?
Zelf maak ik gebruik van Virtual Box, hiermee kan ik alle soorten OS installeren, soms wel even zoeken naar een image maar werkt goed. -
Ik heb op dit moment inderdaad een VM van Windows 10 op Ubuntu draaien. Op deze VM moet ik voor school vaak zware programma's draaien. Dit is niet ideaal voor een VM. Daarom wil ik gewoon een dual boot zodat ik Windows kan opstarten mocht dat voor school moeten.

Zelf geen ervaring in dual boot, maar ik zag deze tutorial voorbij komen.

Ja dual 'boten' lukt mij ook wel. Ik heb dit altijd gedaan toen Windows al op mijn systeem stond. Ik denk dat ik mijn vraag niet goed geformuleerd heb.
Moet je altijd eerst Windows installeren voordat je Ubuntu installeert. Want volgens mij gaat Ubuntu er wel 'vanuit' dat Windows er al op staat. But I'm not sure.

Ik heb mij altijd laten zeggen dat het best is om eerst windows erop te zetten en daarna pas een andere OS. Maar dit was toen met Windows 7. Ik vraag dit eens aan mijn collega en ik laat je het weten!

Als ik je goed begrijp heb je dus Windows nodig voor high performance? Je kunt ook Windows installeren en daarin een VM voor Ubuntu. Dan heb je ook allebei en heb je toch Windows voor high performance. Anders zou ik inderdaad eerst Windows installeren. Ubuntu is gratis dus als er iets mis gaat bij een tweede OS installeren dan kan dat beter Ubuntu zijn.

Ik gebruik Ubuntu privé en voor werk en Windows voor school. Op de VM is het loopt hij vaak vast. Vandaar dat ik een dual boot wil doen.

Volgens mijn collega is het beter dat je 2 schijven in je pc hebt. Waarop dat windows eerst geinstalleerd staat en waar je dan via usb of cd ubuntu op de 2de plaatst. Dan kan je je bootfile instellen dat ze beide schijven kunnen lezen en klaar...
Hij wist mij ook te zeggen dat hij niet wist of het zou lukken met 2 partities op 1 schijf. Windows zou kunnen moeilijk doen. Maar hij wilt dat niet met 100% zekerheid bevestigen

Dual boot op 1 schijf is mogelijk, wel eerst windows installeren en daarna ubuntu! Succes

Het is mijn laptop, twee schijven is alleen mogelijk als ik de CD-speler vervang. Deze laat ik voor nu lekker zitten, niet dat ik die ooit gebruik. Ik heb 1TB SSD. Ga er dus eerst Windows opzetten en daarna Ubuntu.

ubuntu zal windows herkennen waarmee je dan gemakkelijker je boot file kunt aanpassen om een dualboot te geven. Windows doet daartegen iets moeilijker. Maar moeilijk gaat uiteraard ook.
@ts als je wilt kan ik je wel even helpen bij de config van de dualboot als je bij het installeren het ander OS "verliest".
